Guitar-Building Course
Do you want to be intimately involved in the creation of a guitar that fits you perfectly—a guitar that naturally and joyfully brings out your musical best? It would be my pleasure to help you realize that goal. It doesn’t matter whether you are an experienced woodworker or if you have never picked up a chisel or plane. That’s because this is not a pre-designed course. It’s a one-on-one experience, just you and me in my shop and we’ll create a program to meet your skills and goals.
Perhaps you just want to spend a day learning how to set up your favorite acoustic for maximum sound and playability? On the other end of the spectrum. you might want to spend weeks designing and building your guitar from scratch—everything from choosing the woods to applying finish.
If building a guitar is your goal, and your time is more limited, a good approach is to have me do the machine work to prepare components such as pre-shaped back and sides and a neck blank. Fitting and assembling components and gaining the hand-tool skills to carve braces and the neck is an excellent way to be involved in creating a guitar that fits your body, style and tastes like a glove. Whatever approach we decide to take, you’ll leave with a guitar you’ll cherish. Perhaps more importantly, you’ll know not only what to do, but why you are doing it. You’ll understand guitar geometry and why, for example some braces go through the sides and others don’t.
And we’ll accommodate your schedule. Are you local to Warwick and want to work on Sundays? Or Tuesdays? Or sometimes Wednesdays? Several evenings a week? No problem. Are you coming from a distance and want to stay in the area to work with me for a week or more? I’ll help you find accommodations.
